Thank you for your kind comments on our Bands's
performance for the "Afternoon on Broadway" Concert on Eastbourne Bandstand. I will let our MD Steve Winter know and he will be very pleased and may send you his own mail. I thought our soloists did well and our band put on a good show in the windy conditions.

As the MD of Gretton, firstly thanks for the kind comments. It's always a challenge to pick a range of pieces that the band can play, that the band can enjoy playing, and that has something that everyone can enjoy listening to - all on one rehearsal a week! I'm not personally a fan of "500 miles" or "I Don't feel like Dancin' " but they are tunes that people who aren't necessarily brass band fans might enjoy. If it were up to me I'd end up playing loads of classic SA and other marches, but that wouldn't be balanced. We at Gretton exist for community events such as this, not for the area contest so we try to do them as well as we can. Let's hope the local councils keep booking the bands in future.

Thank you for the very kind and encouraging comments above. We are always delighted to see you at our jobs during the summer and especially at Abbingdon park. This is always a highlight of the year for the band. The Gretton Silver Band are always happy to come to the town to entertain.

We will always endevour to put on a good mixed entertainment concert and I think this was achieved again this year. I think our MD Mr David Mann deserves a lot of credit for this years program. I personally think he got the balance between traditional and modern just about right. The singing in the rain was not on the original program but the weather called for it.

I would like to take the oportunity to thank the guest players who came to help with the performance this year. Many of whom came a significant distance at their own expense and helped without cost to the band. Thank you all, without you on this occasion the band would have struggled greatly. Also of course not forgetting our resident Piper Jason Magner, hopefully this piece may form a more regular part of our repitoire.

Despite the distruction of the park and the weather we thoroughly enjoyed playing again this year.

Thank you again and hope we can attend next year. long may the bands in Abbington park continue...
